Justin Thomas, the world’s No. 2 player and the leader in the 2018 FedExCup standings, won his first major – the 2017 PGA Championship – at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C.  In just his third full season as a PGA TOUR professional, Thomas also captured the 2017 Fedex Cup Championship and was named the 2017 PGA of America and PGA TOUR Player of the Year.  His father, Mike, is a PGA Master Professional at Harmony Landing in Louisville, Ky., and is a former member of the PGA of America’s Board of Directors.  Mike has been Justin’s only golf teacher.  Justin’s grandfather, Paul, a longtime PGA of America Golf Professional, qualified for the 1960 and 1961 PGA Championships and the 1962 U.S. Open. He was once paired with Arnold Palmer in a Champions Tour event.

Justin supports the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kentuckiana, the First Tee of Louisville and Tuscaloosa, Folds of Honor, the Kentucky Golf Foundation and Convoy of Hope.

The MGWA has recognized the game’s greatest players, contributors, and organizations at its National Awards Dinner since 1952 – the longest-running and often the largest golf dinner in the U.S. each year. This annual event is attended by nearly 600 guests, representing golf’s leading organizations and corporate supporters, Met-area clubs and club leaders, as well as local and national golf media. The Dinner is hosted by MGWA President Bruce Beck, lead sports anchor at WNBC-TV in New York.

The MGWA has raised over two million dollars for Caddie Scholarship programs in the Metropolitan New York area; the MGA Foundation; and the Dave Marr Journalism Scholarship at Columbia University.
