Met Area Quartet Earn Spots in PGA Championship

Casey Pyne of The Stanwich Club.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (April 20, 2022) -- Following this week's PGA Professional Championship at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas, four Met Area professionals will be booking trips to Oklahoma next month for the PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club. Dylan Newman of Brae Burn and Casey Pyne of Stanwich secured spots following their 72-hole finishes, while Alex Beach of Westchester and Paul Dickinson of Atlantic secured two of the final three spots in a four-for-three playoff.

Beach and Dickinson were two of four players T18 through 72 holes, leading to extra holes to decide the team of 20 that advances to the PGA Championship. Past PGA Professional Championship winner Beach provided some excitement on the par-4 10th playoff hole, chipping in for birdie to advance to his fifth PGA Championship. Meanwhile, Dickinson made an up-and-down of his own from right of the green, making par to earn his first-ever start in the PGA Championship.

Newman and Pyne both finished the championship at 1-under 282 after a challenging final day on the Fazio Foothills Course. Newman stood 6-over on his round stepping to the par-5 18th tee, but proved clutch in finding the green in two. A two-putt birdie for Newman sealed his T11 finish and helped him avoid a playoff for one of the final qualifying positions. Pyne had a similarly challenging day, with seven bogeys on the round. However his stellar play in previous rounds (65-70-69) provided the cushion he needed to advance to Southern Hills.

The 2022 PGA Championship takes place May 16-22 at Southern Hills Country Club.
