Local Qualifying: 122nd U.S. Open Championship

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (April 19, 2022) -- For the 10th consecutive time, the USGA accepted more than 9,000 U.S. Open entries as players set their sights on advancing through qualifying to compete in the 122nd U.S. Open Championship at The Country Club, June 16-19, 2022. The road to Brookline, Mass., starts with local qualifying and this year the MGA will conduct five local qualifiers between May 2-17. Overall, local qualifying will be conducted over 18 holes at 109 sites in 44 U.S. states and Canada between April 25-May 23.

Those advancing out of local qualifying join a group of locally exempt players in final qualifying, which will be conducted over 36 holes at nine U.S. and two international sites. Two qualifiers are set for Monday, May 23, one in Texas and one in Japan, while nine are scheduled on Monday, June 6: two in Ohio and one each in California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New York, Oregon and Canada.

The MGA will conduct its final qualifying on June 6 at Old Oaks Country Club and Century Country Club in Purchase, N.Y. The MGA's final qualifying site rotates between the Purchase, N.Y., clubs and Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, N.J., on a three-year basis.

May 2 - Wee Burn Country Club, Darien, Conn.
Brian Carlson of Madison, Conn., was the lone golfer to shoot under-par in at Wee Burn Country Club. A key birdie on the fourth hole coupled with eight pars on the back nine led to Carlson’s round of the day, which secured him medalist honors with a 4-under, 68. Nine golfers in total advanced to Final Qualifying.

May 3 - Hollywood Golf Club, Deal, N.J.
Chris Gotterup of Rumson, N.J., looked right at home at Hollywood Golf Club, pacing the field with a 7-under, 64 en route to medalist honors. Gotterup’s bogey-free round was the only of its kind on a day when just three players finished under-par. Seven total golfers pushed through to Final Qualifying.

May 9 - Southampton Golf Club, Southampton, N.Y.
Tyler Gerbavsits of Huntington, N.Y., was the only player to record a round of under par (-1/69) at Southampton Golf Club. Seven golfers claimed spots for Final Qualifying and two earned alternate positions.

May 12 - Knickerbocker Country Club, Tenafly, N.J.
Bill Hook of Tenafly, N.J. finished at 6-under to lead a field of six who advanced to Final Qualifying at Knickerbocker Country Club. Hook finished his last nine holes in 6-under to claim medalist honors. Two alternates were also chosen from the field.

May 17 - Manhattan Woods Golf Club, West Nyack, N.Y.
Juan Carlos Benitez of Puebla, Mexico, posted a 6-under 66 to best the field by three and lead seven players to Final Qualifying from Manhattan Woods. Benitez carded just one bogey in his morning round. Amateur Christian Cavaliere emerged from a 4-for-1 playoff to grab the final qualifying position, while two alternate slots were also decided.
