Messina leads final Ike qualifiers at North Fork

CUTCHOGUE, N.Y. (June 8, 2017) – Qualifying for the 62nd Ike MGA Stroke Play Championship Presented by Callaway concluded today at North Fork Country Club in Cutchogue, N.Y. A total of 18 players advanced to the June 26 and 27 championship at Century Country Club in Purchase, N.Y.

Rich Messina of Sands Point earned medalist honors on the day thanks to an impressive round of 4-under 67, which consisted of two eagles and a birdie on the inward nine.

Coming in close behind was Scott Osler of North Fork who was able to use local knowledge en-route to a qualifying score of 3-under 68.

Hunter Semels of North Hempstead and Gray Barnes of Centennial also finished in red figures with rounds of 2-under 69.

Two players safely qualified with rounds of 1-under 70, including Andrew DeMarco of MGA eClub – Long Island and Kealan Oreilly of Sands Point.

Connor O’Rourke of MGA eClub – Long Island punched his ticket to Century with a round of even par 71.

Qualifying with scores of 1-over 72 were Oliver Hudesman of Muttontown, Paul Gabriele of Huntington Country, Matthew Jackson of Golf Performance Center, Enrico Sabatino of Swan Lake, Brett Inserra of Manhattan Woods, Bryan Pendrick of Mill River, and Darren McCormack of Great Rock.

Four players took the remaining qualifying positions with rounds of 2-over 73: Dan Abbondandolo of Brookville, Tom Trakoval of Port Jefferson, Kyle Burke of West Sayville, and Todd Kozlowksy of St. George’s, who made a hole-in-one on the par-three 14th.

North Fork played to a par 71 at 6205 yards for a field of 127 players.

The Ike is a 54-hole event open to amateur golfers with a Handicap Index not exceeding 5.0. Today’s qualifying round was the last of five qualifying rounds held throughout the Met Area to determine the final field.
