Michael Winter leads final 14 Met Open qualifiers from Galloway National

GALLOWAY, N.J. (August 8, 2017) – Qualifying for the 102nd Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway concluded Tuesday at Galloway National Golf Club, as 14 competitors advanced to the August 22-24 event at Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, N.J. Michael Winter, an MGA eClub – New Jersey member, led the field, tying Galloway National’s tournament course record with a 4-under 67.

Winter, a rising junior at St. Peter’s University who won the 2017 MAAC Championship, started on 10 and went through his first nine bogey-free in 3-under 33. He closed with a 1-under 34, which included 4 birdies to 3 bogeys.

John Jackopsic and Brendan Lemp, both MGA eClub – New York City members, and amateur William Betts of The Golf Performance Center were just a shot behind with 3-under 68s.

Another shot back following 2-under 69s were Ryan Fountaine of Baltusrol and Matthew McKeon of Spring Lake.

At even-par 71 were professionals John McCarthy of Morris County, Pat Wilson of Hamilton Farm, Christopher Dymek of Manasquan River and recent Met Amateur runner-up Bradley Lankler of Fiddler’s Elbow.

Grabbing the last qualifying spots at 1-over 72 were professionals Travis Deibert of The Ridge at Back Brook, Peter Springstead of Hackensack, Corey Brigham of Liberty National and amateur Christopher Yeom of Rolling Green.

Galloway National played to 6,671 yards as a par 71.

Galloway National was the last of six qualifying rounds held across the Met Area for the 102nd Met Open.
