Met Area Clubs Hit Hard by Sandy

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (Updated November 1, 2012) - Golf courses around the Met Area felt Hurricane Sandy's force on Monday and early Tuesday morning. Several clubs were severely damaged by major flooding and downed trees.

Below are photos and tweets of the damage (we'll be updating this page throughout the day as more information comes in):

Peter Engel, assistant golf pro at Beekman Country Club in Hopewell Junction, N.Y., shared the photo below. "Here is a 200+ year old oak tree that kept many a golfer away from one side of a reachable par 5," he said. "A shame to see such on old tree be taken..."

2011 Met Junior champion Charlie Edler tweeted this photo to us from Rumson Country Club in Rumson, N.J. "The 7th at RCC," he wrote. "The boat is only about a mile from where it should be."

Geoff Shackelford of Golf Digest posted these two photos of Seawane Country Club in Hewlett, N.Y., home to the annual LIGA Richardson Invitational, taken by Brian Benedict.

Shackelford also posted these of Rockaway Hunt Club in Lawrence, N.Y. (next two) and of Rye Golf Club in Rye, N.Y. (bottom), which were taken by his readers:
