Qualifying: 103rd Met Junior & 52nd MGA Boys

Glen Ridge Country Club will be hosting its second MGA/MetLife Boys Championship


ELMSFORD, N.Y. (June 18, 2020) -- Following a number of schedule alterations due to COVID-19, the MGA is excited to officially begin the 2020 championship season with qualifying rounds for the 103rd Met Junior Championship Sponsored by MetLife and 52nd MGA/MetLife Boys Championship between June 22 and July 6.

Concurrent qualifying for the two events takes place at four sites throughout the Met Area, with juniors looking to advance to Rockaway River Country Club in Denville, N.J., July 13-15 for the nation's oldest junior championship and those not yet 16 aiming to notch a spot in the match play bracket at Glen Ridge Country Club in Glen Ridge, N.J., August 13-14.

June 22 - Watchung Valley Golf Club, Watchung, N.J.
Results | Qualifying Positions: Junior: 24 & ties | Boys: 5 & 2 alternates
Jake Ivan-Pal of Milford, Conn., led the field for the first qualifier of the 2020 MGA season, firing a 3-under 69. Liam White of Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J., finished a shot behind with a 2-under 70. A total of 25 players qualified for the Met Junior after carding scores of 4-over 76 or better. Five boys, ages 15 and under, earned spots in the MGA/MetLife Boys Championship, led by Tyler Lee of Franklin Lakes, N.J., who shot an even 72. 

June 24 - Smithtown Landing Country Club, Smithtown, N.Y.
Results | Qualifying Positions: Junior: 15 & ties | Boys: 4 & 2 alternates
Fifteen-year-old Sam O'Hara of Rye, N.Y., carded a 4-under 68 at Smithtown Landing to earn medalist honors by two shots and lead 18 players to Rockaway River for the 103rd Met Junior. O'Hara also paced the four MGA/MetLife Boys qualifiers. Garrett Kessler of North Caldwell, N.J., was the only other player to post a red-figured total, shooting 2-under 70.

June 25 - Mahopac Golf & Beach Club, Mahopac, N.Y.
Results | Qualifying Positions: Junior: 9 & ties | Boys: 2 & 1 alternate
Host club member Owen Walsh of Katonah, N.Y., claimed medalist honors behind a 1-under 69, leading nine players to Rockaway River. Alexander Gu of Darien, Conn., logged an even-par 70. Elias Kennon (+2/72) of Old Greenwich, Conn., and John Hiller (+4/74) of New York City earned the two Boys qualifying positions while also earning a spot in the Junior.

July 6 - Silvermine Golf Club, Norwalk, Conn.
Results | Qualifying Positions: Junior: 11 & ties | Boys: 3 & 1 alternate
Michael Donnelly of Brewster, N.Y., and Henry Devaney of Bronxville, N.Y., tallied 3-over 73s to share medalist honors and lead 14 players to Rockaway River. Harrison Browne of Westport, Conn., carded a 7-over 77, while 79s from both Will Huntington of Southington, Conn., and Hudson Hagmann of Wilton, Conn., qualified the trio for both the Boys and Met Junior.
