Qualifying Concludes for 103rd Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (July 24, 2018) -- Qualifying for the 103rd Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway takes place between July 25 and August 7, as Met Area players aim to advance to the August 21-23 championship proper at historic Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y. The MGA's premier championship and most sought-after title in the Met Area is the third oldest Open in the country, with its prestigious Walker L. Trammell Trophy featuring names like Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen.

This year's qualifying takes place at six sites throughout the Met Area.

July 30 - Fiddler's Elbow Country Club (River), Bedminster, N.J.
Qualifying Positions: 11 & Ties | Results
Amateurs stole the spotlight at Fiddler’s Elbow, with seven of the 12 advancing players being amateurs, including the top three finishers: Jack Maguire of Whippoorwill (-5/67), Brennan Haley of Echo Lake (-2/70) and Met PGA Junior member Chris Lee (-1/71). Former Columbia player Harrison Shih, Knickerbocker professional William Hook, 2017 NJSGA Open champion Luke Graboyes of Watchung Valley and 2018 CSGA Junior titlist Connor Belcastro of Sleepy Hollow also stand among those advancing to Wykagyl.

July 30 - Scarsdale Golf Club, Hartsdale, N.Y.
Qualifying Positions: 16 & Ties | Results
Timothy Hegarty of Sleepy Hollow led 18 qualifiers behind a 4-under 66. Dylan Newman of Westchester was just one behind at 3-under 67, while five players including amateur Thomas LaMorte of Haworth carded 2-under 68. The remaining qualifiers posted rounds of 1-over 71 or better to advance to Wykagyl.

July 30 - Hamlet Golf & Country Club, Commack, N.Y.
Qualifying Positions: 9 & Ties | Results
Michael Furci of West Sayville and Ryan George of Rockaway Hunting Club posted rounds of 2-under 68 to lead 12 qualifiers to Wykagyl. A quarter of players including amateur Matt Lowe of Colonial Springs fired 1-under 71s to advance, while six players carding even-par 70s earned the final qualifying positions.

August 6 - Cherry Valley Country Club, Skillman, N.J.
Qualifying Positions: 10 & Ties | Results
It was a strong showing for amateurs at Cherry Valley, as of the 10 players to qualify ,6 were amateurs. Highlighting that group was medalist Evan Quinn of New Jersey National with a blistering round of 7-under 65. Amateur Danny Harcourt of Shackamaxon finished close behind with an impressive round of 6-under 66. Leading the way for the pro qualifiers were David McGovern of Brooklake (-5/67), Brian Gaffney of Essex Fells (-4/68), Jared Mactas of Arcola (-4/68), and 2013 Met Amateur Champion Pat Wilson of Hamilton Farm(-3/69).

August 6 - Noyac Golf Club, Sag Harbor, N.Y.
Qualifying Positions: 12 & Ties | Results
At Noyac Golf Club, a total of 14 players qualified from a field of 115, led by Michael Midgette of Hempstead Golf and Country Club with a round of 5-under 67. Just one shot back of the medalist was amateur Jay Card of Gardiners Bay Country Club with a round of 4-under 68. Trailing behind Card was Eamonn McLoughlin of Cherry Valley Club with a round of 3-under 69 and amateur Sam Bernstein of Century country Club with a round of 2-under 70. 

August 7 - Trump National - Hudson Valley, Hopewell Junction, N.Y.
Qualifying Positions: 16 & Ties | Results
Amateur Evan Grenus of Sterling Farms led a group of 22 qualifiers with a blistering round of 6-under 66. Rounding out the top 5 qualifiers with rounds of 2-under 70 were amateur Andrew Stock of GlenArbor, amateur Vince Kwon of MGA eClub – NJ, James Ondo of Apawamis and 2014 MGA Player of the Year David Pastore of Fairview.
