Qualifying: 104th Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (July 22, 2019) -- Qualifying for the 104th Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway takes place between July 22 and August 6, as Met Area players aim to advance to the August 20-22 championship proper at Piping Rock Club in Locust Valley, N.Y. The MGA's premier championship and most sought-after title in the Met Area is the third oldest Open in the country, with its prestigious Walker L. Trammell Trophy featuring names like Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen.

This year's qualifying takes place at six sites throughout the Met Area.

July 22 - Forsgate Country Club, Monroe Township, N.J.
Qualifying Positions: 9 & ties
Results
Pat Wilson of Hamilton Farm captured medalist honors behind a 4-under 67 on the Banks Course, leading 10 qualifiers to Piping Rock that advanced with scores of 1-under 70 or better. A trio of amateurs punched their tickets, including David Powers of Swan Lake who finished solo second with 3-under 68, MGA eClub - Westchester/Connecticut member Spencer Olson and Jonathan Jeter of Nassau Players.

July 29 - Haworth Country Club, Haworth, N.J.
Qualifying Positions: 12 & ties
Results
Luke Graboyes of Watchung Valley separated himself from the field at Haworth, firing a 6-under 65 en route to medalist honors by three shots. Recent Met Junior Championship runner-up and MGA eClub - NYC member Luke Sample and fellow amateur Ryan Coughlin of Westchester Country Club both posted 3-under 68s. Bobby Weise of Eagle Oaks was another amateur with a top finish, posting 2-under 69 to match Greenwich Country Club's Peter Basso. David Reasoner of Ridgewood, who was recently announced as the PGA of America's 2019 Bill Strasbaugh Award winner, was one of six players to advance with a 1-under 70. In all, 17 players--seven of which were amateurs--earned their way to Piping Rock behind a score of even-par 71 or better.

July 29 - Nissequogue Golf Club, Saint James, N.Y.
Qualifying Positions: 9 & ties
Results
Matt Sita of Old Westbury and Matthew Cahill of Shinnecock Hills shot 3-under 68 to lead nine qualifiers to the Met Open at Piping Rock. Sita's round included an eagle-two on the par-4 15th. Past Long Island Open champion John Daniel Guiney of Piping Rock earned a spot with a 2-under 69, matching Jay Card of Gardiner's Bay. Amateurs Nick Dilio of the Links at Union Vale and Carter Gray of Maidstone took the final two slots, with the lone two amateur qualifiers shooting even-par 71.

July 29 - Paramount Country Club, New City, N.Y.
Qualifying Positions: 15 & ties
Results
Kent St. Charles of Westchester Hills finished as the lone player under-par, with his 1-under leading 16 qualifiers to Piping Rock. Andrew Stock of RIchter Park and Chris Trout of Winged Foot both posted rounds of even-par, while players advanced with scores of 2-over or better.

July 31 - Seawane Club, Hewlett, N.Y.
Qualifying Positions: 14 & ties
Results
Matt Noel of Huntington fired a 5-under 66 at Seawane, leading 17 players to Piping Rock, as weather delay and darkness pushed the finish to the following morning. Noel had a scorching front nine, carding five birdies to make the turn in 30. Rye Golf Club amateur James McHugh finished one shot behind Noel, while Sunny Kim of Bethpage tallied a 2-under 69. The qualifiers advanced with scores of 1-over 72 or better.

August 6 - Leewood Golf Club, Eastchester, N.Y.
Qualifying Positions: 14 & ties
Results
Timothy Hegarty of Sleepy Hollow, Casey Pyne of Stanwich and amateur Thomas Collins of Essex County claimed stake atop the leader board at Leewood with 3-under 67s as the final qualifying positions were doled out for the 104th Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway. Hegarty and Pyne each placed four bogeys to one birdie on their cards, while Collins piled up four birdies and an eagle to help offset a trio of bogeys. In all, 15 players advanced to Piping Rock with scores of even-par or better. Seven amateurs moved on, including Golf Performance Center's Saptak Talwar, Thomas Urciuoli of Baltusrol, and Peter Bradbeer of Fishers Island, who all followed up the medalists with 2-under 68s.
