Qualifying: 76th MGA Public Links Championship

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (May 13, 2024) -- The MGA Public Links Championship this year heads to Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, N.Y., for a record ninth time in the event's 76-year history. To complete the field, the MGA will conduct five qualifiers between May 13 and May 29.

Currently, each of the last two champions in Matt Lowe of Bethpage and Peicheng Chen of Rock Hill are scheduled to compete in the championship. Lowe already has a victory this season, having claimed the LIGA's season-opening Richardson at Wheatley Hills. Chen, meanwhile, has had a strong junior season at St. John's University, claiming the BIG EAST individual title.

May 13 - Bethpage State Park (Green), Farmingdale, N.Y.
Dean Muratore of MET PGA Junior Golf Club topped the leaderboard after posting a 4-under 67. Muratore, who was in the last group of the day carded five birdies in his round. Following closely behind was Matthew Difiore and Yiwen Wang both of Youth on Course MGA. They finished at 4-under with a 68. Overall, 18 golfers qualified, including six from Nassau Players Club who predominantly play at Bethpage.

May 15 - Rockleigh Golf Course, Rockleigh, N.J.
Gavin Rau of Neshanic Valley Golf Course and Eric Salizzoni of Darlington Golf Course topped the leaderboard after posting a 1-over-par 71. Rau tallied three birdies in his round. While, Salizonni had a birdie of his own. Neil Schuster of MGA e-club Long Island and Diego Ocasio of Blue Hill Golf Association tied for T3, each carding over a 2-over-par 71. Overall, ten players secured their spot at Spook Rock.  

May 22 - Blue Hill Golf Course, Pearl River, N.Y.
MGA eClubs reigned supreme at Blue Hill. Thomas Mccarthy of MGA eClub Connecticut secured today’s top qualifying spot being the only golfer to break par. Mccarthy shot one-under totaling at 71. Jackson Hoolver of MGA eClub Hudson Valley, Frankie Sharpe of MGA eClub Long Island and Ryan Applin of Blue Hill Golf Association all tied for second shooting 75 at three-over. At his home club, Applin was the only non MGA eClub member to place in the top four. 10 total players earned qualifying spots for the next round at Spook Rock. 

May 23 - Sterling Farms Golf Course, Stamford, Conn.
Elias Kennon of Golf Performance Center captured the top qualifying spot at Sterling Farms with a score of 71. The Louisville Cardinals golfer birdied hole 18 to claim top qualifier status. Angad Manaise of MGA eClub Connecticut fell to the second qualifying spot due to Kennon’s last hole, shooting one over at 72 on the day. Brian Mcgovern of JP Clarkes Golf Society, Gray Miller of MGA eClub New York City and Andrew Watson of USGA/MGA Golf Club rounded out the top three with scores of 73. Upon play’s completion, 12 total golfers cemented their spots in the final at Spook Rock.

May 29 - Soldier Hill Golf Course, Emerson, N.J.
