Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, N.Y., and Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y., stand as two tried and true hosts of MGA majors and this year serve as home to the 63rd MGA Ike Stroke Play Championship Presented by Callaway and 103rd Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway, respectively. Meanwhile, Paramus, N.J.’s Arcola Country Club will welcome its first-ever MGA major as host of the 116th Met Amateur Championship.

MGA charter member Meadow Brook—who along with Wykagyl stand among 16 clubs in the Met Area that have hosted all three of the MGA’s majors—will show off its Brian Silva renovation completed in early 2017. Course updates included new tees, rebuilt bunkers, and softened doglegs. The club last welcomed the Ike in 2003, with the championship this year taking place June 25-26.

The Met Open’s stop at historic Wykagyl—August 21-23—is its first in more than 90 years, though the club has more recently welcomed the Ike in 2013 and the Amateur in 2007. The challenging layout, which hosted the 2017 Westchester Open won by Danny Balin, has proved to crown worthy champions, with Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam having won LPGA events at the club and Alex Smith (1909) and Johnny Farrell (1927) claiming previous Met Opens.

Many of the region’s top amateur competitors are familiar with Arcola Country Club through its invitational, the Arcola Cup, but this year will also hit the course in aims of experiencing match play on the layout in the Met Amateur, August 2-5.

Juniors also have an exciting year ahead, with stops at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, N.Y., for the 101st Met Junior Championship Sponsored by MetLife, July 17-19; Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., for the 16th Carter Cup on August 1; and Gardiner’s Bay Country Club for the 50th MGA/MetLife Boys Championship, August 9-10. Winged Foot welcomes the Carter Cup for the third time, stepping in as usual host Baltusrol hosts the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in 2018.

Another highlight stop on the schedule comes at season’s end, September 5-6, as Maidstone Club in East Hampton, N.Y., hosts its first MGA championship with the 12th MGA Mid-Amateur—an invitational event for the Met Area’s top competitors aged 30 and older.

The season begins May 7-8 at Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase, N.Y., with the 91st MGA Senior Amateur. A date for both the MGA/MetLife Men’s Four-Ball Championship and MGA/MetLife Women’s Four-Ball Championship is to be announced.

Any questions regarding the new registration process may be directed to the MGA’s Championship Department at 914-347-4653.
