Cavaliere defeated Eric Terminello of Knollwod by a 3-and-2 margin in the afternoon, after moving on by default in the morning after his opponent didn’t show. Terminello, who won his morning match 6-and-5, gave the reigning titlist a strong battle early on, but Cavaliere closed down the stretch. The rising junior at Boston College will square off against Jon Renza of Garrison on Wednesday morning, after Renza claimed victories by 3-and-1 and 5-and-4 margins, respectively.

No. 2 seed Gray Barnes of Centennial continued his steady play as of late, winning his matches 5-and-4 and 2-up to move on to the quarterfinals. Barnes, a recent MGA Public Links and Ike qualifier, will square off against Brian Flanagan of Rye who picked up 3-and-1 and 3-and-2 victories.

Daniel Gabel also had the benefit of a default win, but earned a strong 4-and-2 victory in the afternoon, setting up his quarterfinal match against Larry Haertel of Round Hill who was a 2-and-1 and 1-up winner on the day.

Bear Carlson earned a pair of 2-and-1 wins on Tuesday, defeating rising Penn State sophomore James McHugh of Rye in the afternoon. Carlson will face off against Craig Leonard of Wykagyl on Wednesday morning with a trip to the semifinals on the line.

Both quarterfinal and semifinal matches will take place on Wednesday, setting up Thursday’s 36-hole championship match. Live scoring…

In the Senior bracket, Jim Hamburger of McCann knocked off reigning WGA Senior Player of the Year Jim Romaniello of Shorehaven, 4-and-3, and will face Frank Geiger of Sterling Farms in the first semifinal match. Meanwhile, after advancing by default and picking up a 2-up victory, Tom Yellin of Stanwich continues his quest to add another Westchester title to his credit, having won the 1991 Westchester Amateur. Yellin will face Tom Evans of Siwanoy with a trip to Thursday’s final on the line.

Sirico began his Super Senior title defense with a convincing 4-and-3 win over Scotty George of Westchester. The win set up a rematch of last year’s final against Rick Blank of Metropolis, after Blank edged out Peter Rymer of Spook Rock, 1-up. The other semifinal will feature Rick Lawrence of Ridgewood and John Hamilton of Hudson National, who both picked up sizable victories Tuesday, winning by 5-and-4 and 6-and-5 margins.

Play resumes on Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m., with all matches going off the No. 1 tee at Brooklawn. Live hole-by-hole scoring will be available for all matches throughout the remainder of the championships.
