Oyster Bay Captures 21st MGA/MetLife Women's Net Team Championship in Playoff

 

Old Brookville, N.Y. - The final event of the MGA championships season was a smashing success with the Oyster Bay Women’s team of Mary LaBella and Henrietta Dirks proving they had the winning combination has they teamed up to shoot an 11-under par 62 (30 – 32 = 62) and capture the 21st MGA/MetLife Women's Net Team Championship on the first hole of a three team playoff at The Cedar Brook Club in Old Brookville, NY.   This is only the second time in the history of the Women’s Net Team Championship that three teams were forced to playoff for the title.

With only a handful of official events left on the “official” list for the  MGA  Jerry Courville Sr. Player of the Year, fifty-seven year old Ron Vannelli has positioned himself at the top of the standings following another outstanding performance this past week at the USGA Senior Amateur Championship.  If Vannelli hangs on to the top spot in what has become the closest race in years, he could become the oldest winner in the 27-year history of the award.
