Three participants from The First Tee of Metropolitan New York are in the field at the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, an official Champions Tour event that to be played from July 8-10 and televised nationally on Golf Channel. The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach is a 54-hole golf event that features 78 Champions Tour players and 78 junior golfers ages 15-18.

Barclays Extends Sponsorship & Announces Premier Met Area Course Rotation

The PGA Tour has announced that The Barclays, the first event in the FedEx Cup playoff series, has extended its contract in the Met Area through 2016. It was also announced that Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y., site of the 2002 and 2009 U.S. Open, will be added to the rotation.

The Barclays will be conducted at the premier public facility in 2012 and 2016, and the event will return to Liberty National in Jersey City, N.J., in 2013, Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., in 2014; and Plainfield Country Club in Edison, N.J., in 2015.

June 30, 2011– Connecticut native and PGA Tour star J.J. Henry returned home to Fairfield, Conn., to host the 2nd Annual J.J. Henry Invitational, a fundraising event at his home course, The Patterson Club. The event was held on Monday, June 27th, and benefitted The First Tee of Metropolitan New York (TFTMNY) which supports First Tee programming throughout Fairfield County and the Met Area.

Zahringer Recalls 1982 Victory at Somerset Hills

George Zahringer III has won 15 MGA championships, more than anyone else in history, and it all started at the site of this week’s Ike Championship, Somerset Hills Country Club. In the final of the 1982 Met Amateur, Zahringer, 29 at the time, defeated Mike Diffley 3 & 2 for his first MGA title. Now 58, Zahringer recalls his first trip to the MGA winner’s circle.
