ELMSFORD, N.Y. (April 1, 2010) - USGA Awards Grants to MGA Foundation

The USGA has awarded the MGA Foundation three program grants for 2010 to help support The First Tee of Metropolitan New York. A total of $35,000 will be used to help with the cost of golf instruction, golf course and driving range access and transportation for participants. Since 1996, the USGA has provided nearly $1,000,000 in support of the many programs conducted by the MGA Foundation.

Jay Mottola Honored with USGA Ike Grainger Award

April 28, 2009 — MGA Executive Director Jay Mottola was honored with the USGA Ike Grainger Award in recognition of his more than 25 years of volunteer service to the USGA. The award was presented by USGA Executive Director David Fay at the MGA Tournament Officials Seminar on April 27 at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J.  The award is named for Isaac B.

The 2009 MGA Foundation Spring Educational Series has concluded one of its most successful seasons ever, following a month-long program of educational forums. These programs are open to the public and are designed to educate club leaders and the golfing public about a wide range of topics of interest to Met Area golfers, including the Rules of Golf, handicapping procedures, new technology and MGA and MGA Foundation services and programs. The MGA also participated in the highly successful Lower Hudson Valley Golf Show.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (April 17, 2009) - The Met PGA honored its 2008 award winners on Tuesday, April 14, at the 47th Annual Metropolitan PGA Educational Forum at the Westchester Broadway Theatre in Elmsford, N.Y. Sponsored by Callaway Golf, the forum included the presentation of the Met PGA’s major awards along with presentations by Major Dan Rooney, a PGA professional from Oklahoma who has served three tours of duty in Iraq, and NBC sports commentator Jimmy Roberts.

MGA Mourns Passing of Gene Borek at Age 72

April 14, 2009 — Gene Borek, the longtime head professional at Metropolis Country Club in White Plains, N.Y., and one of the most successful club professionals in Met Area history, died at his home in Hartsdale, N.Y., on April 14 after a long battle with cancer. He was 72 years old.
