December 21, 2010 – After a four-year hiatus, Westchester Country Club will again host a professional golf tournament after the Champions Tour announced that the 2011 Constellation Energy Senior Players Championshipwill be held at the historic Harrison, N.Y., club, a venue that is quite familiar to many of the senior circuit’s players. The 2011 event will be played August 18-21 over the same West Course at Westchester that hosted a PGA Tour event for 41 years.

The MGA wishes to extend season’s greetings to all of our friends in the Met Area golf community. In a season full of tournament triumphs, milestone celebrations and feel-good stories, the MGA has come up with our top 10 highlights from the 2010 season. December 15, 2010 – Looking for a stocking stuffer to give that golfer in your family? Try theater tickets. In a revival of the original production from 2003, Golf: The Musical is currently playing off-Broadway through January 16, 2011. Below is a review of the show by George Kirsch, professor of history at Manhattan College in Riverdale, N.Y., and the author of Golf in America (University of Illinois Press, 2008).

With another year of Q-School in the books, 29 golfers have punched their ticket to the PGA Tour for the 2011 season. By finishing in the top 25 and ties, these men will join the like of Graeme McDowell, Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. Four Met Area natives played in the final stage, which was held December 1-6 at the Orange County National Golf Center in Winter Garden, Fla. Although none of the four finished in the top 25, three of them will have PGA Tour status next season. Final scores.

ELSMFORD, N.Y. (December 2, 2010) – Fomer MGA President Paul R. Dillon and Joe Saladino of Huntington Country Club were honored at the  Metropolitan Golf Association Annual Meeting and Dinner on Wednesday, December 1, at Westchester Country Club in Harrison, N.Y. Dillon received the 2010 MGA Distinguished Service Award, the Association’s highest honor, and Saladino received the 2010 MGA Jerry Courville Sr. Player of the Year Award.

FAIRFIELD, CONN. (December 2, 2010) – This past spring, Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield, Conn., hosted a Day of Gratitude to honor local veterans. The chairman of the club’s Veterans Day Committee, Randy Goldrick, is encouraging other MGA member clubs to follow this example as a way to give back to veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
