ELMSFORD, N.Y.-On the heels of last week’s 2nd place finish at The Chattanooga Classic, Former Ike, Met Amateur and Met Open Champion Johnson Wagner earned yet another top 10 finish on the Nationwide Tour, this time at the Henrico County Open at The Dominion Club in Richmond, VA on May 24th.

BRONX, N.Y. - The American Golf Foundation will host a special day of activities for local disabled youths and adults on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Mosholu Golf Training Center in the Bronx. Presented in collaboration with the City Parks Foundation, Special Olympics of New York and The First Tee of Metropolitan

New York, the event will feature hands-on golf instruction, a motivational golf clinic by world-renowned trick shot artist and paraplegic golfer Dennis Walters, and a barbecue lunch. The event will take place rain or shine.

ELMSFORD, N.Y.--Andrew Foppiano, of Shoreview GC fired a net four-under par 66 to edge out Stephen Hennesey of Ridgewood CC (NJ) by two shots to win the 12th MGA Senior Net Tournament on a beautiful day at Westchester Hills Golf Club in White Plains, NY. Larry Hall, of Packanack GC, carded nines of 37-36 = 73 to capture the low gross honors.

Former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani was the featured speaker at The Metropolitan Golf Association Foundation’s “Golf Grows Here” Capital Campaign reception Thursday May 13th at the Sky Club in mid-town Manhattan. The reception launched the public phase of a $5 million dollar fundraising effort that will focus on attracting new golfers to the game by making it more affordable and accessible to all segments of society.

The PGA of America has extended a special advance ticket sales opportunity to MGA Members.  From April 15, 2004 through June 30, 2004, MGA members will be invited to purchase up to ten tickets for the 87th PGA Championship, including the Wanamaker Club Ticket or the Season Ticket.

GLEN HEAD, NY-Douglas Vergith of St. George’s G& CC didn’t waste any time introducing himself to his fellow senior peers. The 55-year-old, playing in his first MGA senior event, captured the 77th MGA Senior Amateur Championship at Glen Head Country Club in Glen Head, NY, by one shot over a very competitive field.

ELMSFORD, N.Y.-The Metropolitan Golf Association’s 2004 tournament season kicks off with the 77th MGA Senior Amateur Championship at Glen Head Country Club in Glen Head, NY, on Tuesday-Wednesday, May 4-5.  It will be followed by the 12th MGA Senior Net Tournament at Westchester Hills Golf Club in White Plains, NY, on Thursday, May 6.

BRONX, N.Y.-PGA TOUR commissioner Tim Finchem will be joined by City Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe and other New York City officials for the grand opening of the city’s first and only First Tee golf facility, on Wednesday, June 5th at Mosholu Golf Course in the Bronx, New York.  The site, officially known as The First Tee of Metropolitan New York is a joint initiative of The First Tee - a World Golf Foundation initiative dedicated to providing affordable golf access for everyone, especially kids, who otherwise might not have an opportuni

Third Group Qualifies for MGA's 48th "IKE"

Ron Vannelli led a group of 14 qualifiers today at Metuchen Golf and Country Club, in Edison, NJ, who qualified for the MGA’s 48th “Ike” Stroke Play Championship presented by Canon USA.  Vannelli carded a 5-under-par 67 (33-34) to earn medallist honors and a spot in the field of the MGA’s first major of the year.

 

The top 13 finishers (+ties) from a field of 141 golfers qualified for the tournament, which will be held June 30th – July 1st at Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, NY. Today’s qualifier was the third of five to be held in the Met Area.
