FAR HILLS, N.J.--Ticket requests for the 2002 U.S. Open golf championship at Bethpage State Park (Black Course) in Farmingdale, N.Y., will be accepted by mail order or via the USGA Website at www.usga.org from June 18 through July 31, 2001, according to the United States Golf Association.  The Championship is scheduled from June 13-16, 2002.

Minnesota--Although both the men’s and women’s home teams from the state of Minnesota won the their respective 2001 USGA State Team Championship, a host of Met Area golfers made strong showings both in the team and individual competition.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ….After an erratic first round that produced a hole-in-one, an eagle and two birdies in a four-hole stretch but resulted in a 73, Carl Pedersen of Chelsea Piers came back with a solid two-under par 70 (35-35) to capture the 5th MGA Senior Open Championship on Royce Brook Golf Club's spectacular West Course.

Woodbury, N.Y.--Playing in his first MGA/MetLife Public Links Championship, 18-year old Martin Catalioto of Bergen Community GC played like a seasoned veteran firing a two-under par total of 138 (70-68) to earn his first victory in the event today at Oyster Bay Golf Course in Woodbury, NY.

ELMSFORD, N.Y.--The Metropolitan Golf Association is proud to announce that George Zahringer III of Deepdale Golf Club in Manhasset, NY, and The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, CT, will receive the 2001 MGA Jerry Courville, Sr. Player of the Year Award at the Association’s 104th Annual Meeting on December 5th at the Westchester Country Club in Harrison, NY.

Niagara Falls, NY….Former MGA President John Baldwin of The Meadow Brook  Club on Long Island, fired rounds of 72-69-72 for a three-over par total of 213 to capture his first New York State Senior Amateur Championship held at Niagara Falls Country Club in Niagara Falls, NY.

Farmingdale, N.Y.--Heading into the final round of this year's Met Open Championship six shots behind the 36-hole leader Rick Hartmann, reigning Met Amateur champion Johnson Wagner of Garrison Golf Club knew he needed a near perfect performance to become only the second player to capture both crowns in the same season and just the fifth amateur in the event's storied 86-year history to have his name engraved on the Walter L. Trammel trophy. 

On a windy day at scenic Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park, NJ, Huntington Crescent Club's team of Arthur Roche and Robert Chrenc combined to shoot a net 8-under par 74 to capture the 25^th MGA/MetLife Men's Net Team Championship.

Croton-On-Hudson, N.Y.--After two grueling days of championship golf at Hudson National Golf Club, only four players remain in search of the 99^th Met Amateur Championship.  Former champions Greg Rohlf (1999) and Jerry Courville Jr. (1995, '97, '98) will be joined in the semifinals by young standouts Johnson Wagner and Jack Skirkanich.  Rohlf, of Wykagyl CC, needed only 14-holes to defeat recent U.S.

Croton-On-Hudson, N.Y.--Playing in his first Met Amateur Championship, twenty-one year old Johnson Wagner of Garrison Golf Club continued his weeklong dominance by defeating 18-year old Jack Skirkanich of Rumson Country Club 6 & 5 in today’s 99^th Met Amateur Championship 36-hole final at Hudson National Golf Club in Croton-On-Hudson, NY.
