PELHAM, N.Y. (October 1, 2009)Linda Sokol and Betty Wagner of the Meroke Golf Association (Long Island) beat out a talented field of golfers to win the 25th MGA/MetLife Women’s Net Team Championship at Pelham Country Club in Pelham, N.Y.

(October 31, 2007) - With the “official” golf season coming to an end in the Metropolitan area, it is important to know what scores (if any) played in the winter months are eligible to be posted for handicap purposes. Those who play well in the winter months tend to believe that their scores should not be posted for handicap purposes. Sometimes they even point to the fact that they have forgotten some of the important details about their score – like the actual score – to justify not posting.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (October 24, 2007) - Former MGA standout Johnson Wagner has two weeks remaining in the PGA Tour season to secure his card for 2008 and avoid going to Q-School. Wagner is in 95th place on the PGA Tour money list, and the top 125 retain their playing privileges for next season. On other Tours, local players are also fighting for their professional futures. CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (October 15, 2007) – On a cool, sunny day at Hudson National Golf Club, the inaugural MGA Mid-Amateur Championship got off to an auspicious start. Playing in the first group, Mike Reardon of the Tuxedo Club went out in the first group and set the pace, shooting a two-under 69 to hold a two-stroke lead at the end of the first round. Reardon, 45 was the only player to break par on the 6,835-yard, par-71 layout overlooking the Hudson River.

CAREY CUP MATCHES BEGIN AT TRUMP NATIONAL

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (October 11, 2007) – On the first day of play at the biennial Governor Hugh L. Carey Challenge Cup matches, the team from the Golfing Union of Ireland won two of three points in the morning four-ball session to take an early lead. The MGA team, however, was in the midst of a strong comeback under deteriorating weather conditions in the afternoon foursomes (alternate shot) session. Rain and lightning caused play to be suspended at 4:25 p.m., and foursomes play will resume at 8:00 Friday morning and be followed by the six singles matches.

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (October 11, 2007) - The inaugural MGA Mid-Amateur Championship, the first new MGA championship in eleven years, will be played on October 15 and 16 at Hudson National Golf Club in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. The 36-hole stroke play competition features a talented field of 90 players aged 35 years and older from across the Met Area who will have to contend with one of the toughest and most renowned courses in the region.

NORTH CALDWELL, N.J. (October 4, 2007) - The Redding Country Club team ofElaine Laux and Monica Riggs fired a 10-under-par net 63 to successfully defend theirMGA/MetLife Women’s Net Team title at Green Brook Country Club. The Otterkill team of Carole Seneca and Han Lee, who finished third in 2006, carded a nine-under net 64 to finish in second place, one stroke better than Jane Cohen and Wanda Taktikos of Salem.
