Semifinals Set for Saturday at the Richardson

EAST WILLISTON, N.Y. (May 3, 2024) -- The Round of 16 and Quarterfinals for the 2024 Richardson Memorial Championship Sponsored by Keystone Electronics Corp. at Wheatley Hills Golf Club have concluded, paving the way for an exciting day of matches on Saturday.

The Seniors led the way heading out first on Friday morning. Dave Scialabba of Meadow Brook Club picked up where he left off the first day, winning both of his matches in decisive fashion. Scialabba defeated Steve Sloane of Cherry Valley Club 5 & 4 in the Round of 16. He would go on to face Edward Gibstein of Glen Head Country Club in the Quarter Finals. There he continued his solid play winning 3 & 2.

Thomas Trakoval of Port Jefferson CC at Hrbr Hill advanced to semifinals after defeating Jason Monroe of Fenway Golf Club and Marc Coleman of Nassau Players Club. Fellow member of Port Jefferson CC at Hrbr Hill, Alan Specht also advanced after defeating Richard Sneider of Kings Park Golf Association and Dennis Lynch of Baiting Hollow G & CC.

Rounding out the semifinals bracket in the Senior Division is John Shurina of Nassau Players Club who beat John Levin of Glen Oaks Club and 1 up in the Quarterfinals.

In the Championship Division Matthew Lowe of MGA eClub Long Island continued his great play from Thursday. Lowe faced Andrew Osofsky of Huntington Country Club where he would win the match 6 & 4. He didn’t miss a beat in the Quarterfinals winning 6 & 5. Lowe dropped the first hole but would go on to win the next 6 before closing the match out on the 13th hole.

Prescott Butler of Meadow Brook punched his ticket for Saturday after winning 4 & 3 over Ryan Barnett of Noyac Golf Club in the round of 16. It would take extra holes in his Quarterfinal match against Daniel Abbondandolo of Brookville Country Club. Butler won after recording a birdie on the 19th hole.

Michael Auerbach of Bellport Golf Club claimed his spot after winning a close match in the Round of 16, 2 & 1. He used consistent play to take a 1 up lead after making birdie on the first. He would not relinquish the lead in a tight match that saw no changes until the 17th hole where he would make a three to Peter Scialabba's of Meadow Brook Golf Clubs four to go two up. His Quarterfinal match was a different story. He would defeat Joshua Haberman of Old Westbury G & CC after going 5 up.

Stephen Nicholas of Deepdale Golf Club was the last golfer to move on after winning a close match 1 up. Nicholas faced John Meyers of MGA eClub – New jersey in the Quarterfinals. The two has a back-and-forth match but it was a strong finish from Nicholas who came from behind on the back nine to win the match and move on.

Semifinal matches start at 7:30 Saturday.
