Ina Kim-Schaad Victorious at Bethpage Red

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (August 17, 2023)Ina Kim-Schaad of Deepdale won the 2023 Long Island Women's Amateur Stroke Play Championship on Thursday at Bethpage State Park's Red Course. The 2019 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion and three-time WMGA/MGA Women's Met Amateur Champion added another title to her resume with an eight-shot victory over the rest of the field. Her scores of 70-70 made her the only competitor to finish under-par for the 36-hole championship. 

The 2021 WMGA/MGA Women's Amateur Champion, Paige Diecidue of Smithtown Landing was the runner-up for the second consecutive year with rounds of 74-74, which Eliza Dana of Maidstone was third with rounds of 75-74.

Kim-Schaad got off to a fast start on Wednesday, shooting 1-under and establishing an early lead. Her momentum continued on day two, where she was able to match her first-round score. Over the two rounds of competition, Kim-Schaad recorded seven birdies. 

“Yesterday was my first time seeing the golf course, so today was about trying to remember yesterday and then taking the course shot by shot," she said. 

Kim-Shaad will represtnt the MGA in the Carey Cup in October at Winged Foot Golf Club. 

Mimi McAndrews of Piping Rock took home the Low Net prize with a net score of 2-under 140.
