MORRISTOWN, N.J. (June 27, 2007) – The Port Jefferson team of Lou Malaussena and Thomas Taylor Sr. shot a 10-under 60, including a scorching 28 on the back nine, to win the 31st MGA/MetLife Men’s Net Team Championship at Spring Brook Country Club. By Met-Net standards, it was a dominating performance, as they finished three strokes clear of the second-place team, Joe Boccia and John Barbaro from Kings Park. There was a three-way tie for third place, and the team from the host club, comprised of Spring Brook members Joe LeBato and Mike Colonna, won the third-place prize on a match of cards.

 

Malaussena and Taylor held things together well on the longer, more difficult front nine at Spring Brook, escaping with a better-ball score of three-under 32. They then turned it on after making the turn and shot the lowest nine holes of the tournament coming in.

 

This year, 1,500 teams attempted to qualify (at the club level) for the MGA/MetLife Men’s Net Team Championship, before moving on to one of three Sectional Qualifying Rounds. Fifty-six teams advanced to today’s championship. Below are the top 10 team finishers in the 2007 MGA/MetLife Men’s Net Team Championship.
