Inaugural MGA Masters Postponed Until 2012

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (September 19, 2011) - The inaugural playing of the MGA Masters Tournament, a new championship for amateurs aged 65 and over, will have to wait until 2012. The MGA Masters was originally scheduled for September 20, 2011 at the Country Club of Fairfield in Fairfield, Conn., and was then pushed back to Tuesday, October 4 to allow the course time to recover from flooding caused by Tropical Storm Irene. The club, which sits on the shore of Long Island Sound, experienced heavy storm surge. The saltwater damage was too significant to overcome in such a short period of time, and the Country Club of Fairfield informed the MGA that they would be closed for the rest of the 2011 golf season. Rather than try to find an alternate location on short notice, the MGA decided to postpone the Masters Tournament until next year.

The Inaugural MGA Masters will still be held at the Country Club of Fairfield, and will take place on Thursday, September 20, 2012. The 18-hole, stroke play competition is open to male amateurs who will have reached their 65th birthday by September 20, 2012, and who have a current USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 10.0. Registration for the tournament, and for all 2012 MGA championships, will begin in January 2012.
