Edelman Earns Medalist Honors at Rockland Ike Qualifier

Sparkill, N.Y. (May 22, 2013) – Luke Edelman of North Jersey put together the best round of the day with a 1-under 70 to earn medalist honors at the Ike Sectional Qualifier at Rockland Country Club in Sparkill, N.Y. Edelman, a rising sophomore on the Bucknell University golf team, went out with a 1-over 35 but came in with a 2-under 35.

Fifteen out of a field of 138 players made the cut of 4-over 75 and will move on to the Ike Championship at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y. on June 24. Rockland played to a par 71 of 6,581 yards for the qualifier.

2008 MGA Carter Cup champion Curtis Loop of New Canaan and Kamaiu Johnson of Sterling Farms each put together rounds of even-par 71 to tie for second. Dan Levinson of Bayonne and Max Christiana of Westchester each shot a 2-over 73 to tie for fourth.

Players who will also make their way to New Rochelle in late June include Jeffrey Schaller of Twaalfskill (74), Michael O’Connell of North Jersey (74), Tommy Prestia of Tuxedo (74), Mark Costanza of Arcola (74), Nhi Tran of Rockland (74), Cody Cox of Hickory Hill (74), Ross Kronberg of Sterling Farms (75), Ben Hunter of Sterling Farms (75), Michael Fisher of McCann (75), and Steven Zychowski of Mendham (75).

This was the third Sectional Qualifier conducted for the Ike. The final two qualifier will take place on Thursday May 23 at St. Georges Golf & Country Club in East Setauket, N.Y., and on May 28 at Trump National – Colts Neck in Colts Neck, N.J.
