Columbia Men's Golf Team to Host The Tuxedo Autumn Invitational

UPDATED: (September 29, 2014) - The Columbia Men's Golf Team played host to The Tuxedo Autumn Invitational this weekend and did it in winning fashion. As a team, they finished in first place at a total of 53-over par, winning by eight shots. Hofstra finished in second and Lehigh right behind in third.

As for the individual scores it was Brandon Jowers from Columbia finishing in first place by one stroke over 54 holes of play. He shot a total of 5-over with scores of 70, 72, and 76. Finishing in second was the Met Area local Jared Mactas of Woodcliff Lake, N.J. The 2012 Carter Cup champion and freshman at Lafayette carded rounds of 71, 76, and 72 for a 6-over total just one stroke away from first place.

Finishing tied for 12th with 15-over totals were locals Harrison Shih of Saddle River, N.J., and Daniel Levin of New York, N.Y. Shih, a junior at Columbia, fired rounds of 77, 74, and 77. Levin, a freshman at Bucknell, had rounds of 74, 79, and 75.

Close behind them was Plandome Manor, N.Y.'s J. Christian Fitzgerald, a sophomore at Coulmbia, who finished in 17th with rounds of 76, 75, and 80 for a total of 18-over. One stroke behind him was Manhattan freshman Johnny Schob of Huntington, N.Y. Schob finished tied for 18th at 19-over with rounds of 73, 79, and 80.

 

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (September 26, 2014) - This weekend the Columbia Men’s Golf Team will host The Tuxedo Autumn Invitational presented by OnCore. The event will take place at The Tuxedo Club and features nine schools as part of the tournament, including the 2013 Ivy League Champion Lions. Joining them will be Bucknell, Central Connecticut, Hofstra, Lafayette, Lehigh, UMass Lowell, Monmouth, and Manhattan.

Among the golfers in the event are a few Met Area players that will surely stand out. Harrison Shih of Saddle River, N.J. leads the way for the host team Columbia. Shih put together quite a nice MGA season, earning low amateur honors and tying for 4th at the Met Open and advancing to the quarterfinals at the Met Amateur. The junior hopes to have another great year of production for the Lions, after placing in third in the Ivy League for stroke average and earning First Team All-Ivy League honors a year ago. Shih’s teammate, sophomore J. Christian Fitzgerald of Plandome Manor, N.Y., will also compete this weekend.

Also from the Met Area and competing in the Invitational is 2012 Carter Cup champion Jared Mactas of Woodcliff Lake, N.J. Mactas, a freshman, will tee it up for Lafayette at Tuxedo this weekend. Another Met Area freshman and playing for Bucknell is Daniel Levin of New York, N.Y. Levin made appearance at this year’s Ike Championship as well as the Hochster Memorial, and has played in Carter Cups in the past.

Johnny Schob of Huntington, N.Y. will represent one of the Manhattan Jaspers at the Invitational. The freshman is a two-time junior club champion at Winged Foot and has made appearances in the Carter Cup and the Met Junior.
