Brooke Nethercott Wins WMGA/MGA Women's Public Links Championship

SUFFERN, N.Y. (July 16, 2015) - Brooke Nethercott  of eClub of Fairfield claimed the 18th WMGA/MGA Women’s Public Links Championship at Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, N.Y., on Thursday after defeating Taylor Lambrou of Lido Golf Course in a playoff.

At the conclusion of the 18-hole round, both Nethercott and Lambrou had matching scores of 3-over 75, forcing a playoff to determine the champion. The playoff was contested on the first hole, where Nethercott steadily made par to be crowned the champion.

The Hartford senior commented that the playoff mimicked her experience playing in collegiate events, where she finds herself competing against Lambrou’s school, Quinnipiac.

“It was just kind of funny, you know. I play her all year and now I’m playing her for the championship,” reflected Nethercott.  “I was nervous enough already because it was my first playoff ever, and then I had to go out there and compete against a good friend.”

Lambrou, a rising sophomore on the Bobcats golf squad, was Holy Trinity’s No. 1 golfer for four years before making the transition to Quinnipiac.  After her round, Lambrou credited her father, and caddy, with keeping her composed all day.

“He always caddies for me,” noted Lambrou. “He really makes me not worry about my round or think about my score.  And I need that.”

Linda Wang of AGC Clearview Park finished in 3rd place, carding a 5-over 77.  Wang finished as runner-up in 2014.

In perfect weather conditions, Spook Rock played to a par of 72 at 5,795 yards.

The WMGA/MGA Women’s Public Links Championship consists of one 18-hole round.  All entrants must have a current USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 20.0 under the Women’s USGA Handicap System. The championship is jointly run by the MGA and the WMGA.
