Sweet Victory

Monday, April 29 -

The last two days have been awesome. Jim Liu and I had a great time in both the alternate shot and the fourball even though we were beaten in the latter. We were 2-under through 14 holes in the alternate shot and could not have played any better. In the second round we played against a very strong team and played well, but were definitely outplayed. It was a hard fought day and the score reflected it as neither team had an advantage.

We once again had the best weather we could have hoped for. The wind blew consistently and made the course play very difficult but it wasn't too cold. I got off to a solid start and hit the ball extremely well all day. I started to make a few putts at the turn and gained a 2-up advantage after nine. I continued to play well and my match ended on the 16th hole.

As I went out to watch the rest of the matches I knew that we were only one point away from retaining the cup since Jim had already won his match. All of the matches were close and the last three matches went to the final hole. On the last green, Max two putted from 15 feet to win his match after a great approach shot to the back of the green and guaranteed that we would keep the cup.

Then Mike hit his approach from the fairway just short of the green while his opponent was right of the green. After a chip that went al little long, Mike faced a twenty foot downhill putt for par which he made to halve his match and win the cup outright. It was a very special moment and made taking the cup home that much sweeter.

This week has been a wonderful experience and it is an honor to have been a part of an MGA team that captured its first win outside of the states. The European Club was a great place to have the matches and I think everyone on the team can agree this was an experience we won't ever forget!
