POSITION: Communications Intern

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Metropolitan Golf Association, located in Elmsford, N.Y., is seeking an individual with strong creative and multi-media skills to be part of its Communications Department as a seasonal intern.

Candidate should be a creative, energetic idea generator looking to gain experience in the communications field. He/she must possess the following qualities:

  • Strong editorial, writing and communication skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator), Quark or other desktop publishing software
  • Familiarity working with all social media platforms - Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Flickr and YouTube
  • Ability to work on PC and Mac computers
  • Proficiency with DSLR cameras and video camcorders a plus
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to travel locally and work long days, especially during the golf season (June to August – continuing to October, if possible)
  • Ability to interact positively with MGA membership, volunteers, press and the general public
  • Working knowledge/interest in golf

The person will be an important part of the MGA’s Communications Team, and is expected to work in close collaboration with colleagues. The position’s primary duties include:

  • Assist with the day-to-day digital content of www.mgagolf.org
  • Contribute to all of the MGA’s social media platforms with engaging content
  • Create and design tournament press guides, flyers and promotional materials
  • Assist in the copy-editing process of The Met Golfer and Met Golfer EXTRA
  • Assist with all communications operations at MGA championships (approx.. 12-15 events per year) which includes social media updates, player interviews, photography, videos, and equipment setup
  • Organize and maintain the MGA’s photo and video archives
  • Perform basic office duties such as filing, unloading/loading of equipment, prepare mailings, etc.

Individual must be highly organized and be able to meet deadlines, make positive contributions to the creative process and work as part of a team. A car is necessary, as travel to locations throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut is required.

SALARY: Monthly Stipend
