Michael McConie of Colonial Springs Golf Club continues his underdog run, with two impressive rounds today. McConie, a member of the Chaminade High School Golf Team, came into today with the 32nd seed. He earned his spot after defeating 9 others in a 10-for-1 playoff consisting of three holes.

“I didn't have a lot of hope last night. I was fortunate to get through not even making a birdie last night, just getting three pars. This morning, I didn’t let it get to me, I just played my own game and it worked out,” McConie said.

In the morning, McConie faced Peicheng Chen of Rock Hill Golf & Country Club, the one seed and reigning Long Island Amateur Champion. McConie ousted Chen, winning 2&1. In the afternoon, he went on to beat Bryan Ruland of Rockville Links Club 1 up to secure his spot in the quarter finals.

Going into tomorrow, Michael stated that his strategy is to, “do the same thing, fairways, greens, and let my opponent make the mistakes.”

McConie is set to face off tomorrow against Colin Doph. Doph defeated Mark Vitels and William Parker to earn his spot in the quarterfinals.

Another impressive performance came out of Christian Delvecchio of Mill River Club, a quarter finalist in last year's Long Island Amateur Championship. In the morning, Delvecchio beat Andrew Osofsky of Huntington Country Club 1-up. Later, in the round of 16, he won by a larger margin, 4 & 3, against yesterday's low-scorer Daniel Abboondandolo of Brookville Country Club.

When looking back on his day, Delvecchio said, “It was good, I kind of struggled a bit on the front nine, but then I made a couple 10, 12 footers on the back. After that, it was a little bit easier to see the line and I had the speed down. It felt good overall.”

Delvecchio will face Erik Carlstrom of Nassau Country Club  tomorrow, who picked up wins today against Jae Hyuk Lee of MGA eClub NYC and William Green of Friars Head.

Peter Wilson of Meadow Brook Club and Dylan Gallagher of Montauk Downs Golf Club also earned their spots in the quarterfinals today. Wilson had a dominant performance on his home course this morning, winning 6up against North Hempstead Country Club player Ryan Hom. In the afternoon, he won 4-up against Echo Chan of Lawrence Golf Club. Overall, Wilson carded 5 birdies to lead to his success. Gallagher will be joining him after defeating MGA eClub Long Island member Brian Hale of  2 up in the morning and 3 up against Patrick Montagnino of Indian Hills Country Club.

The day ended with two final matches: Thomas Finn of Nassau Country Club against Matt Simon of Friar’s Head and Carter Prince of Huntington Crescent Club against Dennis Driscoll of Meadowbrook Club. Finn won that match 4 & 3, securing his spot tomorrow. Driscoll moved on to the round of 16 by defeating Jack Maerki of Lido Golf Club after 22 holes. Ultimately, Carter Prince won this round 2 &1.

The quarterfinals begin tomorrow morning at 7:15 AM, followed by the semifinals in the afternoon.
