Bracket Set for Day One of Match Play at Long Island Amateur

JERICHO, N.Y. (June 12, 2023) - The first round of The 100th Long Island Amateur Championship presented by Webster Bank began Monday with stroke-play qualifying at Meadow Brook Club. The Long Island Amateur is one of the oldest tournaments in the country, with the inaugural tournament taking place in 1922

Daniel Abbondandolo of Brookville Country Club carded the low round of the day,  shooting 4-under 67. 6 birdies helped Daniel cement the lead, with three out of four on holes ten through thirteen. Carter Prince of Huntington Crescent Club was the only other player to finish under par, with a score of 1-under 70. 3 consecutive birdies on holes 16 through 18 lead Prince to success.

At the end of the day, a rainy 10 for 1 playoff determined the 31st match play spot. The playoff ended with Michael McConie of Colonial Springs Golf Club securing his spot with a par on the third playoff hole.

Overall, 31 players advanced to join Peicheng Chen of Rock Hill Golf & Country Club, 2022 LI Amateur Champion, in tomorrow's round of 32.

Match play begins tomorrow with the Round of 32 going off at 7:30 A.M. 5 rounds of match play over the next 3 days will determine the champion on Thursday.
