LIGA Takes Third at Stoddard

MANHASSET, N.Y. (June 29, 2023) -  The LIGA took third place at the Stoddard Trophy Matches at Deepdale Country Club on Thursday afternoon. Westchester Golf Association defended their title, dominating the day with 23 points. The New Jersey State Golf Association totaled 18.5 and Long Island took 12.5.

Westchester Golf Association got off to a fast start in the morning matches, earning 10 points. New Jersey followed with 5 points, followed by Long Island with 2.5 points. Pairings of Brad Tilley and Connor Belcastro, Ben Carpenter and Tim Murphy, and Jackson Fretty and Nick Taylor won both their matches against LI and NJ, helping cement the 5 point lead.

The afternoon matches included strong showings from all three teams. New Jersey took home 13.5 points, the most of the afternoon. Westchester took 13 and Long Island took 9.5.

Overall, Westchester edged out New Jersey by 4.5 points to take home the trophy. 

The Stoddard Trophy matches feature amateur golfers from New Jersey, Long Island and Westchester against one another in a Ryder Cup-style team competition. The format includes foursomes (alternate shot) matches in the morning, followed by singles matches in the afternoon.
