Svoboda followed up his even-par round on day 1 by going bogey free, shooting a 7-under-par round of 63. Svoboda has had previous success in the Metropolitan Area, winning the Met Open Championship in both 2003 and 2018 and having won this championship in 2018 and 2019. Svoboda in 2018 also won the New York State Open, making him the first player to win the Long Island Open, Met Open and New York State Open in the same year.

Danny Balin shares the lead with Svoboda after shooting a 6-under-par round of 64. Balin, head professional at Fresh Meadow Country Club, is no stranger to success himself. He previously won Met Section PGA Player of the Year honors in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2018. Balin is currently ranked first for the award in 2021. Balin is coming off his eighth appearance in the PGA Championship. As a previous Met Open and Westchester Open winner, Balin's now aiming to add the Long Island Open to his resume.

Right behind Svoboda and Balin are Matthew Lowe (71) and amateur Darin Goldstein (70) at 6-under-par. They will look to regain their momentum from day one for the final day of the tournament on Thursday.

The 36-hole cut fell at 7-over par with 43 players advancing to the final round.
