Zahringer Misses Cut but Still Makes History at Masters

AUGUSTA, Ga.- Nine-time MGA Player of the Year George Zahringer III fell short in his quest to make the cut at the 2003 Masters at Augusta National. The 49-year old Zahringer still made Masters history by becoming the oldest rookie to qualify for the Tournament.

Zahringer earned his invitation to Augusta by virtue of his win at The 2002 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at his home course, The Stanwich Club, in Greenwich, CT last year.

Congratulations go out to former Met Area resident Len Mattiace on his runner-up finish in one of the most hotly contested Masters in recent memory. The former Mineola resident shot 7-under for the tournament but lost on the first playoff hole to Mike Weir.
