ELMSFORD, N.Y.-Four top Met Area junior golfers, including the son of former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, have been selected to represent the MGA on the 2003 Williamson Cup Team which will travel to Montreal, Canada on August 11-12, for the 40th playing the Williamson Cup Inter-City Matches at Royal Montreal Golf Club. 

Representing the MGA will be 18-year-old Chris Holmes of Shelter Island, NY, who qualified for the 2002 US Junior Amateur, 17-year old Scott Chisholm of Essex Fells, NJ, who also played on the 2001 Williamson Cup Team, 17 year old Tyler Kupper of Weston, CT, a two time Scarsdale Golf Club Men’s Champion and 17 year old Andrew Giuliani, a finalist in this season’s MGA Junior Championship.

The Williamson Cup was created in 1964 by long-time MGA Junior Committee Chairman A. Fred Williamson, and named in honor of his father, Fred E. Williamson (who passed away in 1951), a Winged Foot founder and former club president.  It originated as a competition among teams of junior golfers representing major East Coast cities, and quickly grew to include several Canadian Associations with each taking turns as hosts.   In 1995, a team from the Ligue de Paris was invited to participate, making it truly an international event.  

The format for the Williamson Cup is four-man teams playing 36 holes stroke play over two days. The team champions are determined by taking the three lowest aggregate scores of the four man teams from each Association.  Individual prizes are also awarded.
