McIntyre Advances to the Second Round in the 2003 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship
BRISTOL, VA.-Dr. Robert McIntyre of Westfield, NJ playing out of Plainfield advanced to the second round of Match Play at the 149th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship at The Virginian Golf Club, in Bristol, VA.
McIntyre fired rounds of 72 and 78 for a two-round total of 150 to earn the 58th qualifying spot, and then went on to beat 7th seed Spencer Sappington of Alpharetta, GA, 2 & 1. McIntyre faces Russ Berkoben of Perrysburg, OH in today’s second round match.
Bob Howe, of Winged Foot also qualified for match play as he shot rounds of 74 and 76 for a total of 150 to earn the 57th qualifying spot. Howe lost his first round match to Bill Ploeger of Columbus, GA 4 & 2. Vic Gerard of Eagle Oaks Golf Club nearly made it to match play when he lost in a nine-way playoff for six spots, after shooting rounds of 74 and 77 for a total of 151 to put himself in a tie for 59th.
