Quagliano Leads MGA Team to Williamson Cup Victory

Elmsford, NY- Michael Quagliano, of White Plains, NY led a four-man junior team representing the Metropolitan Golf Association to victory at the 31st Williamson Cup Matches held at the Country Club of Detroit in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.  Teams representing ten Golf Associations throughout the United States and Canada competed in this 36-hole stroke play event, which counted three of the four-team members aggregate scores each round to determine the team championship.  Individual prizes were also awarded.

Representing the MGA were Michael Quagliano of White Plains, NY, runner-up in the 2003 Met Amateur and 2003 MGA Junior Champion; Mark Costanza of Upper Saddle River, NJ, 2003 MGA Boys champion; Brendan Tracy, of New York, NY, 2003 Carter Cup champion; and Sun Ho Kim of Flushing, NY, 2004 MGA Boys champion and 2004 MGA Junior runner-up.

In the morning round Quagliano fired a 3-under-par 69 to put himself in second place and lead the team to its 229 total and tie for 5th at the midpoint.  In the afternoon round, Quagliano kept up the solid play by firing a two-under-par 70 to earn first place in the individual competition, while Costanza and Tracy both improved on their morning round 81s by firing 73 and 77 respectively.  The MGA’s afternoon score of 220 gave them a 449 total and a two-stroke victory, while Quagliano’s 139 (69 – 70) gave him the lowest individual score ever recorded in the 40 year history of this event.  This year’s title is the 7th victory for the MGA team, which last took home the trophy in 1996.
