MGA/MetLife Women’s Net Team Championship Begins on Thursday

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (October 2, 2007) - The 23rd MGA/MetLife Women’s Net Team Championship will be held on Thursday, October 4 at Green Brook Country Club in North Caldwell, N.J. The format for the tournament is 18 holes of net better-ball stroke play, with players competing at 95 percent of their Course Handicap.

The “Women’s Met Net,” as it is also called, is open to two-woman teams of golfers representing an MGA member club. The players must have handicap indexes between 10.0 and 36.0, with the team total not exceeding 55.0. Hundreds of teams competed at the club level for the right to represent their club at one of the three sectional qualifying rounds held at Birchwood Country Club (W/CT), Beacon Hill Country Club (NJ), and The Woodcrest Club (LI). From the qualifying emerged the 32 teams that will compete in the championship at Green Brook. Among them are qualifying medalists Jacelyn Angelone and Susan Bartow of Wykagyl; Anita Colini and Ceil Andriola of Silver Lake Ladies; and Adrianne Greenberg and Mary Gabriel of Calverton Links.

Included in the field will be the defending champions, Elaine Laux and Monica Riggs of Redding Country Club, and the team of Jill Denburg and Vickie Rosenthal of the host club, both exempt from the qualifying. Also competing will be Nancy Allen of Innis Arden. Allen was a co-winner in the very first Women’s Met Net back in 1985, and she is hoping to make Innis Aden the second club to win this event three times. Swan Lake, winner in 1987, 1989, and 1992, does not have a team entered this year.
