Hoffmann Selected for Walker Cup Team

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (August 10, 2009) Morgan Hoffmann, the 19-year-old golf star from Wyckoff, N.J., and Arcola Country Club, has been selected by the USGA to represent the United States in the 2009 Walker Cup Matches. The USGA announced on Sunday eight of the ten players that will represent the United States at the Matches, scheduled for September 12 and 13 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa. The remaining members of the team will be selected after the U.S. Amateur Championship is completed on August 30.

Hoffmann, the 2005 Carter Cup champion and runner-up at the 2008 Ike Championship, is a sophomore at Oklahoma State University. The New Jersey native had a breakout season this year for the Cowboys, including Big 12 Player of the Year honors and being named as a First-Team All American. He is also featured in the August/September 2009 issue of The Met Golfer.

The biennial Walker Cup Match consists of 16 singles matches and eight foursomes (alternate shot) matches. The United States has won the last two Matches, posting one-point victories at Chicago (Ill.) Golf Club in 2005 and Royal County Down in Ireland in 2007. The USA leads the series overall, 33-7-1.
