MGA Mourns Passing of Sis Putman

November 30, 2009Mary Jane “Sis” Putman, a longtime scoreboard keeper for the MGA, died at her home in Mendham, N.J., on November 26 after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Putman joined the MGA as a scorekeeper in 1984 and worked hundreds of tournaments throughout the Met Area.

Putman was born in Stockton, Calif., before graduating from Northwestern University in 1956, where she met her husband of 49 years, Fenn Putman. The couple moved to Mendham, N.J., in 1966 and have been longtime members of Somerset Hills Country Club in Bernardsville, N.J. Putman was a teacher in Mendham for 40 years and an active member of the community as the coach of local youth hockey and baseball teams. The Putman family was honored as the Family of the Year by the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association in 2009.

“Since 1984 Sis Putman has contributed to the success of the MGA tournament program as a scorekeeper and friend,” said Gene Westmoreland, the former Senior Director of Rules and Competitions at the MGA. “Her talent, dedication and personality will be sorely missed.”
