Lowell Schulman Honored with USGA Ike Grainger Award

October 7, 2009 — Lowell Schulman has been honored with the USGA Ike Grainger Award in recognition of his more than 25 years of volunteer service to the USGA. The award is named for Isaac B. “Ike” Grainger, a dedicated volunteer and rules official who was president of the MGA from 1943-45 and of the USGA from 1954-55.

Mr. Schulman, a commercial real estate developer, is known in the golf world for his work in the creation of Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, N.Y., and, the founding of Atlantic Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y. Schulman has been a longtime member of the USGA’s Museum Committee, a Board member of the MGA Foundation, and chairman of the MGA’s annual Day of Golf outing, and chairman of the MGA Capital Campaign.

Over the years, Mr. Schulman has donated many of the rare golf antiques he has collected to the USGA museum and is a true philanthropist to the game of golf.

Mr. Schulman was awarded the MGA’s Distinguished Service Award in 2003 for his outstanding contributions to not only Met Area golf, but helping others enjoy the game. In 1994, Mr. Schulman was awarded the Sam Snead Award, the highest honor of the Met PGA.
