Faxon Praises Met Area Courses at AT&T Pebble Beach

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (February 10, 2010)   Eight-time PGA Tour winner and Rhode Island resident Brad Faxon is a student of golf course architecture who often praised Westchester Country Club in Harrison, N.Y., when it was the longtime host of a PGA Tour event. In recent years, Faxon has come to the Met Area to attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open, in part because he said he enjoys classic courses like Century and Old Oaks in Purchase, N.Y., which hosted the sectional the last three years.

On Wednesday, Faxon played a practice round on the Shore Course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club (below), which replaced Poppy Hills in the course rotation for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. It’s clear his feelings toward Met Area courses have stayed with him. In a post-round interview, Faxon said, “I can’t think of a PGA Tour event that plays a course that looks like that. You would have to go to a few special places out on Long Island to find something that looks like that.” Read the full story here.

The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am gets underway on Thursday, February 11 and runs through Sunday, February 14.
