MGA Foundation “Day of Golf” a Huge Success at Friar’s Head

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (May 24, 2010) - The 2010 MGA Foundation “Day of Golf” was held at Friar’s Head in Baiting Hollow, N.Y., on May 24. This was the 16th year of the event, which has become a very special day on the MGA calendar. With more than $100,000 raised in support of the MGA Foundation’s GOLFWORKS Student Intern program, the day was a tremendous success. More than 130 supporters were on hand to enjoy Friar’s Head, which hosted the 2008 Met Amateur Championship and is one of the premier golf courses in the country. Our host at Friar’s Head, course developer Ken Bakst, was on hand to welcome the MGA Foundation’s guests. Bakst and the club were extremely generous in hosting the event, allowing almost all of the funds raised to go directly towards the GOLFWORKS program.

Along with a fantastic setting for golf, the day featured two GOLFWORKS participants, Javon Leach and Skye McCaine, who spoke at the reception about how vital the GOLFWORKS program has been to their success as students, workers and individuals. Both Leach and McCaine emphasized how the GOLFWORKS program has taught them about workplace responsibilities and helped shape the way they go about achieving future goals, both personally and professionally.

The GOLFWORKS program was created in 1994, with 12 students working at six clubs. This year, there will be more than 200 GOLFWORKS interns working at more than 80 MGA clubs. The “Day of Golf” has been held at some of the top golf courses in the Met Area and continues to be a popular way to raise awareness of the GOLFWORKS program. Past hosts include Trump National - Bedminster in Bedminster, N.J., Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J., and last year’s host, Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City, N.J.
