Schneider & iolonardi Capture 36th MGA/MetLife Men's Net Team

WESTON, CONN. (June 27, 2012) - Under beautiful skies and pleasant temperatures, 42 two-man teams from across the Met Area competed in the 36th MGA/MetLife Men’s Net Team Championship at Aspetuck Valley Country Club. The “Met Net” is one of the most popular and competitive events on the MGA calendar, and an exciting afternoon saw the team from Blue Eagle Golf Club (located in Pearl River, N.Y.), Bill ioLonardi and John Schneider, finish on top via a one-hole, sudden-death playoff.

Falling short in the playoff were Irving Beitler and Evan Meisner from Brae Burn Country Club, who settled for second place. The Blue Eagle and Brae Burn teams shot net scores of eight-under-par 63, two strokes clear of Larry Diesso and Chris Nalley of South Shore Men’s Club, who took sole possession of 3rd place.

The field included the 2011 champions, Richie Klein and David Mindich of Apple Ridge, who finished tied for 13th.

The MGA/MetLife Men’s Net Team Championship was created in 1977 to give the average golfer a high-caliber tournament experience. The championship routinely draws more than 2,000 teams from across the Met Area who attempt to qualify at the club level, and those teams advance to sectional qualifying to determine the final field.

Every phase of the championship is organized at a level comparable to other major MGA championships, and the host sites, which over the years have included Quaker Ridge, Canoe Brook, Westchester, Plainfield, Metropolis, and Sleepy Hollow, are second to none.

The Met Net is open to two-man teams representing an MGA member club. Each team member must have a USGA Handicap Indexes between 5.0 and 24.0, and the team total cannot exceed 40.0.
