Old Westbury Hosts 2013 MGA Presidents Council Fall Conference

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (October 16, 2013) – On Tuesday, October 15, over 180 presidents and general managers from Met Area clubs gathered at Old Westbury Golf and Country Club in Old Westbury, N.Y. for a day of learning, discussions, and to hear about the launch of the My MGA Club App.

The 2013 Presidents Council Fall Conference featured five main segments, with a focus on effective ways to manage club membership as well as addressing emerging issues that clubs are facing.

Kevin P. Vitale, the General Manager/COO of Baltusrol Golf Club and a member of the National Club Association’s Board of Directors, began the discussion with an update from the NCA, getting all of the attendees up to speed with issues that clubs are facing around the country.

Next, Steven Friedman and John Bauer spoke about the Affordable Care Act and what exactly clubs need to know about the impacts of this new legislation.

Michael Leemhius, who is the CEO and General Manager at Congressional Country Club, then presented the audience with ways to focus on strategic planning based on current and emerging trends in the private club industry.

Zack Long, MGA’s Director of Business and Marketing, and John Geary of New Start Media unveiled the MGA’s brand new member service, the My MGA Club App.

With this new customizable app, members can log in to their club via My MGA and have access to numerous features, including the ability to book tee times and dining reservations, view the dining and events calendar, search the member roster and engage with other members, receive weather alerts and event reminders, and much more. Warren H. Richmond was next on the microphone and shared his insights as an employment lawyer and the acting president of Nissequogue Golf Club. He focused on employee and member misconduct issues and the proper ways to address them.

The day’s seminars came to a close with a panel discussion that allowed for attendees to get involved and share their opinions and questions on a variety of club topics.

The 2014 Presidents Council Fall Conference will be held at Brae Burn Country Club on October 14.
