Zahringer competing in Inaugural Concession Cup

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (May 1, 2014) - One of the best Met Area amateurs, George Zahringer of Deepdale, is playing this week in the Inaugural Concession Cup, a prestigious new tournament for top mid-amateur and senior amateur golfers between the United States and Great Britain and Ireland at the Concession Golf Club in Sarasota, Fl. from May 1- 3.

The team competition is played in a Ryder Cup style format with foursome, fourball and single matches throughout the three day competition. The teams have three categories and are comprised of eight Mid-Ams (age 25 to 54), eight Seniors (age 55 and older) and two Super Seniors (age 65 and older). Zahringer, the ten-time MGA Player of the Year, is playing in the Senior category.

Last year Zahringer won the 2013 British Senior Amateur, and he has played on five MGA International teams and was a member of the Walker Cup team in 2003, leaving him with strong experience in international and team competitions.

Zahringer's list of accomplishments goes on - he won the 2002 U.S. Mid-Amateur which earned him a spot in the 2003 Masters. He holds the record of the most MGA victories with 15 wins, including a Met Open, five Met Amateurs, and five Ike Championships.

The new, biennial competition was designed to celebrate amateur golf through international competition while giving back to worthy causes. Some of the biggest names in golf are also involved - Jack Nicklaus ad Tony Jacklin are serving as Honory Captains, Paul Azinger as Honorary Chairman, and Gary Koch is hosting the Opening Celebration.

Thursday, May 1 - Opening Ceremony and Foursome matches

Friday, May 2 - Fourball Matches
