Eight Locals in U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur

UPDATED 2:10 p.m. (September 9, 2014) - After a hard fought Round of 32 match that lasted 19 holes, Alyssa Roland of New York, N.Y. came up just short at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur. Roland had won only three holes heading to the 18th, where she was 1 down. She would win the 18th to extend the match, but lost on the 19th when her opponent, Christina Proteau, birdied the par 4 370 yard 1st hole at Harbour Trees.

UPDATED 4:00 p.m. (September 8, 2014) - After the Round of 64, Alyssa Roland of New York, N.Y., was the only Met Area player to win her match and advanceĀ  to the Round of 32. Roland defeated Leigh Klasse in 19 holes to advance.

Amy Loughney of Hoboken, N.J., lost her match on the 18th hole, and Daria Cummings fell 2 & 1 in her match.

UPDATED 10:37 a.m. (September 8, 2014) - Two rounds of stroke play qualifying are complete at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship and a few of the locals are moving on to the match play portion of the tournament.

Leading the way is two-time WMGA/MGA Women's Public Links Champion Daria Cummings of Monroe, Conn. Cummings carded rounds of 76 and 81 for a 36-hole total of 13-over 157 and grabbed the 27th overall seed. She will take on the 38th seeded Mina Hardin of La Quinta, Calif. this afternoon at 1:50 p.m.

Rounds of 79 and 81 for a 36-hole total of 16-over 160 would be good enough for Alyssa Roland of New York, N.Y. to earn the 44th overall seed. She will face the 21st overall seeded Leigh Klasse of St. Anthony, Minn. today at 11:30 a.m.

Amy Loughney of Hoboken, N.J. fired rounds of 81 and 80 for a 36-hole total of 17-over 161. That got her the 50th overall seed in match play and she will play the 15th seeded Olivia Herrick of Roseville, Minn. at noon today.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (September 3, 2014) - The Met Area will be well represented at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, which starts on Saturday at Harbour Trees Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. Eight women from the Met Area, age 25 and older, will be making the trip to Indiana. The championship involves 36-holes of on-site stroke play qualifying over the weekend, after which the low 64 scorers will advance to match play to determine the ultimate champion.
