Miller, Polland start strong in Wildfire Invite

UPDATE - A pair of Met Area professionals posted top-10 finishes at the Wildfire Invitational, led by a solo fifth from Mike Miller and a tie for tenth by David Pastore.

Miller recorded a final round 70 and claimed his second top-10 of the season on Sunday, finishing the event 19-under.

Pastore made a climb up the leaderboard on Sunday, posting one of the day's lowest scores of 7-under 65.

Ryan McCormick and Ben Polland each finished the event at 11-under, tying for 33rd. Max Buckley ended the week at 7-under.

UPDATE - Mike Miller will enter the final round of the Wildfire Invitational just one stroke behind the leaders, after a firing a 6-under 66 in the third round. He stands at 17-under for the championship.

Miller made the turn in 1-under, but shot 31 in his closing nine, which was highlighted by an eagle three on the 16th hole. The two-time MGA Player of the Year enters the final round tied third, and has one top-10 finish on the Mackenzie Tour this season.

David Pastore and Ben Polland are each 10-under for the championship, while Ryan McCormick and Max Buckley stand at 6-under and 5-under, respectively.

Ben Polland shot a 2-under 70 on Friday and stands at 8-under for the tournament, his second appearance in a Mackenzie Tour event.

David Pastore carded a 3-under 69 on Friday, and enters the third round at 7-under. Max Buckley fired a 5-under 67 to move up the leaderboard and stands at 6-under overall. Ryan McCormick followed an even-par opening round with a 4-under 68 to make the cut on the number.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (September 4, 2015) - Met Area professionals have continued competition on the Mackenzie Tour this summer and, this week, Mike Miller and 100th Met Open champion Ben Polland have recorded strong starts at the Wildfire Invitational in Peterborough, Ontario.

Miller, a two-time MGA Player of the Year, fired a first round of 7-under 65 on Thursday. He birdied the three in a row on holes 14-16, but made his turn with a bogey on the par-5 18th. He bounced back quickly with a birdie on the first and added three more the rest of the way, finishing the day one stroke behind the leaders at 8-under.

Polland is also off to a quality start, carding a 6-under 66. The Deepdale assistant also had one bogey in his round, coming on the par-4 sixth, but he finished his round strongly with birdies on four of his last five holes. He also birdied holes 14-16, then capped off his round with another birdie on the 18th hole.

Also competing this week are David Pastore, Mike Ballo, Max Buckley and Ryan McCormick. Pastore and Ballo opened with rounds of 4-under and 3-under, respectively. Buckley and McCormick shot rounds of 1-under and even-par.
