Bakst Eliminated at U.S. Senior Amateur

UPDATE (August 30, 2021) -- After advancing to match play, Ken Bakst of Baiting Hollow, N.Y., dropped his Round of 64 match, 3 and 2, to No., 26 seed Paul Jett at the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Detroit in grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.

Bakst won the opening hole, but Jett claimed the fourth hole then Nos. 6-7 to grab a lead he would never relinquish. Bakst won the par-5 ninth, but Jett responded with a win on the par-3 11th. After four consecutive ties, Jett won the par-3 16th to close out the match.


ELMSFORD, N.Y. (August 30, 2021) -- A 2-under 70 in the opening round of stroke play qualifying propelled 1997 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Ken Bakst of Baiting Hollow, N.Y., into match play in the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship at Country Club of Detroit in Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. In the final 18 holes of qualifying, Bakst posted a 4-over 76, still which led him into a tie for 39th and to earn the No. 39 seed.

Bakst's opening round on Saturday was bogey-free, with his birdies coming on the par-4 4th and 11th holes. He tallied a trio of birdies on Sunday, but also had a double bogey along with five bogeys en route to the 76.

In the Round of 64, Bakst faces No. 26 seed Paul Jett of Southern Pines, N.C., with the match beginning at 12:12 p.m.
