Jin Leads 6 MGA Public Links Qualifiers from Middle Bay

OCEANSIDE, N.Y. (May 22, 2018) – Jin Han of the MGA eClub – New York City shot 2-under-par 70 at The Golf Club at Middle Bay on Tuesday, leading six qualifiers for the 71st MGA Public Links Championship, slated for June 13 at Griffith E. Harris Golf Course in Greenwich, Conn.

Han opened with a bogey five on the first hole, but kept a clean card the remainder of the day while also adding birdies on Nos. 2, 14 and 18.

Darren McCormack of Great Rock carded even par with a three-birdie effort of his own, while David Prowler of Bethpage State Park and Scott Stoner of Douglaston followed with rounds of 73 and 74, respectively.

Frank Meizoso III of Bethpage State Park posted 4-over 76 and Patrick J. Curley of the Met PGA Junior clinched the final qualifying position with 5-over 77.

Despite overcast conditions, rain held off until after play had completed. The Golf Club at Middle Bay played at a par of 72 from 6,589 yards.

In all, the MGA will conduct five qualifying rounds for the 71st MGA Public Links Championship, which stands as the oldest public links championship in the country. The next takes place May 23 at Philip J. Rotella Municipal Golf Course in Thiells, N.Y.
