Svoboda Claims 103rd Met Open Presented by Callaway
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (August 23, 2018) – Beginning the day one shot off the lead, Andy Svoboda of Engineers played the first six holes in 5-under par and never looked back en route to the one-shot victory in the 103rd Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway at Wykagyl Country Club. Second round leader Jack Wall of Manasquan River shot 2-under 70 to finish in solo second and take low amateur honors.
With the win, Svoboda becomes the first ever player to capture the Long Island Open, New York State Open, and Met Open in the same season. Svoboda also becomes just the second player to win the title as both an amateur and a professional, having won as an amateur in 2003 on his way to MGA Player of the Year honors.
